Travel Insurance on a Cruise is a Must

In Roatan, Honduras a man was kicked off the ship due to him becoming sick. What made it even worse was that he didn’t have travel insurance when he booked his cruise so therefore he had to pay thousands of dollars to get himself back home to get the proper medical treatment.

Believe me too that if the crew’s medical staff can’t treat you on the boat you will have to be airlifted out.   For those that do have travel insurance an air ambulance will pick you up and deliver you to the nearest U.S. or best hospital in the region if you’re too far away from home.  If you don’t have the insurance than be aware that an air ambulance can cost you up wards of $20,000.

Need I say more about how you would be a fool to not have travel insurance when you plan your cruise, vacation etc outside of the U.S.

Another story involved an older man coming down with the flu while taking a cruise on Queen Elizabeth 2.  The traveller spent the majority of his days in bed with a nurse coming to his side frequently to make sure he was okay. Just imagine putting in all the effort to find a great deal on cruises and plan a great vacation getaway to end up sick from it. Even for certain viruses you will be confined to your cabin until you are no longer contagious.

A story that saved someone’s life due to having travel insurance happened when a passenger suffered a stroke.  Since he had travel insurance the doctor onboard the cruise line was patch though to a neurologist in Dallas.  Air ambulance came and quickly evacuated the ill passenger and taking him to the nearest hospital where he made a full recovery and lived to see tomorrow.  Had the passenger not had the insurance when he boarded the cruise line the doctor on the cruise vessel would have had no choice but to put him ashore at the nearest port which was Cartagena Columbia where most likely he would’ve died.

I don’t know about you but last thing I want to do when I’m sick is go to a third world hospital.  Also if the doctor mis diagnose you on the cruise ship then forget about suing because just like everyone else on board the cruise ship they are all independent contractors and the cruise line has no liability.

If the following has not scared you into purchasing travel insurance for you next vacation, cruises etc then I really don’t know what will.  The price of travel insurance will seem like peanuts after you see your medical bill.
